We are all blessed to come through a family; big or small; they are the first people we get to know in life. Not always are these people completely biological relatives to us but they are the people we learn our first lessons in life from.
As we grow, we discover that each person has different personalities; some we easily get along with and others we don't even if we're family. We meet people in the world, at school, in the neighbourhood and so on. We become friends with these people and the more time we spend with some of these people, the closer we get to them; becoming very open and comfortable around them.
I have come to realise that truly, you 'choose' your family in the end. Your life partner, for instance, was not born from your family.
So who is your family?
To me, my family is all the people that:
- I am comfortable around
- I am not ashamed or afraid to talk to
- I don't feel awkward around when there is silence :)
- I can trust and confide in
- I can tell EVERYTHING and ANYTHING
- Are there for me: through the good, bad, sad, rough and happy times
- I cannot live without!
- Protect me and do not judge
- Most of all, LOVE me for who I am
All these and more, if I can say about someone, means they are much more than friends to me. They are now part of my life forever and therefore my family.
I say my family become my friends...This is a 'double title'. Because not only are they already special, but as I've grown I can call, for instance, my sister my best friend :) See, that's how it happens.
SO IN ALL, LOVE YOUR FRIENDS, LOVE YOUR FAMILY EVEN MORE. YOU HAVE THOSE GOD HAS GIVEN YOU AND THOSE YOU GET TO CHOOSE!!!
